My Review Of The Lemon Detox

If you have read my blog then you will know that I tried out the Lemon Detox this week. I have never tried a detox before so when I was given the opportunity to try it out, I was keen to try the Lemon Detox to see how it would benefit me and also to experience a new challenge.

What is the Lemon Detox?
The Lemon Detox is a health programme devised by Stanley Burroughs over thirty years ago. It involves replacing solid food with a drink made from Madal Bal Natural Tree Syrup, lemon juice, water and cayenne pepper.

There are two versions of the Lemon Detox. One is the Total Fast where you have no solid food for between 5-7 days and drink between 7-10 glasses of the detox drink per day in addition to at least two litres of water. The second version is the Relaxed Diet. This can be done for two weeks. The detox drink replaces two meals and you have one healthy meal per day.

Preparing for the Lemon Detox
If you have read my blog over the last week then you will have seen my Lemon Detox pack.

I was really impressed with the information that I received. The book was particularly useful and I read it from cover to cover. I liked the fact that it gave a lot of background information about the detox.

Preparation also involved cutting out caffeine for a couple of days before the detox to try and alleviate any side effects. I will admit that I only got down to one cup per day though.

Day One

Making up the drink was really easy. I made up a big batch to last the whole day.

I actually really liked the taste! You can use fresh ginger instead of pepper and I found I preferred that so I substituted it in later batches.

I felt fine at first and didn't really feel hungry. The detox drink really does help with that. I did develop a terrible headache by late afternoon that even painkillers didn't shift. I was also going down with a cold and just wanted to go to sleep.

Day 2

I took the decision on day 2 to move to the Relaxed Diet. The reason for this was that it fitted in better with my lifestyle. The Lemon Detox does make you feel more tired and as a busy self employed single mum, I couldn't really adjust my lifestyle to compensate for this.

I made sure that my meal was extremely healthy. On day two, I ate a chicken salad with no dressing. That one meal gave me the boost I needed and I felt really good.

Day 3 - 5

I continued with the Relaxed Diet for these days and ate salads for my one meal. I can honestly say that I didn't feel hungry during this time. I didn't really even miss eating. I had a banana on day four because I was driving around most of the day and just felt that I needed some extra energy.

Benefits For Me

Personally I found several definite benefits for following the Lemon Detox.

1. A Flatter Stomach.
I noticed a huge difference. My tummy can get quite bloated particularly after eating carbs. This completely vanished which was great.

2. Weight Loss
After 5 days following the Lemon Detox I lost three pounds. This was without exercising too.

3. Re-education
Before starting the Lemon Detox, I had found that I was getting a little slack about portion control and maybe wasn't always making the right food choices. This five day break has helped me break those habits and I can start afresh with my healthy diet now.

4. Digestion and General Well Being
Once I moved to the Relaxed Diet, I felt great. My digestion felt improved and I lost my coated tongue for the first time in ages.

5. Nails
My fingernails and toenails both grew more than normal this week!

Would I Do The Lemon Detox Again?

Yes, I definitely would. I think I would only try the Total Detox if I had a period of time when my daughter was away so that I could ease up completely and really look after myself. For me, the greatest thing about the Ldmon Detox is that you can adapt it to fit your own needs and I am definitely planning to do the Relaxed Diet version again. I see it as a useful way to boost myself, kickstart my weight loss if needed and help break any bad habits if needed.

Disclosure
I was not financially compensated for this post. I received a sample of the Lemon Detox for review purposes. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.

Let me know if you have any questions about my experiences with the Lemon Detox and I will be happy to answer them. You can also find out more about the Lemon Detox on their Twitter page at @lemon_detox.
